Dark green pebbled leather binding in green cloth publisher's slipcase. The spine of the book is slightly darkened on the edges but not on the sides. The book is tight and clean inside, and the smoked surfaces provide opportunity for discussions of publisher Jenkins' fires. The spine lettering is readable and the metal "Texas Ranger" star between the first and second raised bands still shines. The book notes a limitation printing of 300 copies, but this one is not numbered. It is signed on the colophon by Jenkins, Frost, Mrs. Frank Hamer and Frank Hamer, Jr.

Brown leather-like binding with mylar jacket as issued. This is the fine press printing; the origina copy was a gift from Mrs. Johnston to her husband General Albert Sidney Johnston, CSA. Bio of Mrs. Johnston by Dr. Mildred Mayhall. Developed under the auspices of The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, to preserve the material for future generations. Many plates of wild flowers extant in Texas at the time of the Civil War. 97 excellent plates of flowers, printed on full page each, with descriptions of each by Mrs. Johnston (with notation by her that that four of the plates had been stolen). This is a handsome piece of Texas history and natural science that was preserved by General Johnston's wife and later by the DRT. The cover features a design of intertwined initials of Mrs. J. Gift quality and Scarce. 1857 map reproduced on endpapers, featuring frontier forts and rivers related to the Generals tour in Texas.
